Raksha Mantri, Shri Rajnath Singh, inaugurated a Titanium and Superalloy Materials Plant at PTC Industries’ Strategic Materials Technology Complex in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. As one of India’s first private facilities for manufacturing aero-engine and superalloy components, the plant marks a major step toward domestic production of rare and strategic materials.

Significance of the Initiative

India has long relied on imports for advanced materials and critical technologies essential to its defence and aerospace sectors, which slowed their growth. Initiatives like the Titanium and Superalloy Materials Plant signal a decisive shift toward self-reliance and reduced dependency on foreign sources.

The plant will enable India to manufacture components for fighter jets, missiles, naval systems, and satellites, placing the country among a select group capable of producing its own critical defence and aerospace materials. It will also create an innovation ecosystem that supports the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision in defence and provides fresh momentum to the state’s economy.

About the Strategic Materials Technology Complex

Spread across 50 acres, the Strategic Materials Technology Complex has been built with an investment of INR 1,000 crore. With an annual production capacity exceeding 6,000 tonnes, the plant will allow India to manufacture aviation-grade titanium and superalloys from domestic and recycled sources - a significant step toward achieving strategic materials independence.

PTC Industries’ Strategic Materials Technology Complex is expected to generate both direct and indirect employment in Uttar Pradesh. The facility is also anticipated to strengthen the UP Defence Industrial Corridor, positioning it among Asia’s leading manufacturing hubs by linking with start-ups and MSMEs and creating new opportunities for youth training and technical skill development.

Other Details

PTC Industries signed an MoU with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) to jointly design and manufacture propulsion systems, guided bombs, and small aero engines for missiles, UAVs, and loitering munitions. In addition, PTC received Letters of Technical Acceptance (LoTA) from DRDO’s CEMILAC for titanium components used in the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and Kaveri Derivative Engine (KDE-2) programs, in collaboration with DMRL, ADA, and GTRE. The company also secured an order for single-crystal turbine blades. The partnership aims to accelerate the indigenisation of propulsion technologies and aerospace materials, reducing import dependency and strengthening India’s defence and aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.

DhruvStar Industry Insights: What it Means for the Indian Industry

India’s defence and aerospace market size is estimated at nearly USD 20-29 billion. With this market size, the complex holds significant importance for India's Defence and Aerospace industries.

  • Indian Defence Sector: India’s defence production has surged in recent years; headline production crossed INR 1.5 lakh crore in FY25 [2]. The Lucknow titanium/superalloy facility will reduce import dependence for critical inputs, strengthen domestic supply chains for jets and missiles, and expand private-sector capacity and exports.
  • Indian Aerospace Sector: By producing aviation-grade titanium and complex engine components domestically, India will improve its ability to indigenise jets and engines, capture higher value in the aerospace supply chain, and encourage private OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to invest and set up production in India.
